UBUNTU

Dec 18,2007
Ubuntu....is an ancient African word that means "humanity to others".
Archbishop Desmond Tutu (1999) defines UBUNTU as:
“ A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed. ”

Nelson Mandela explained Ubuntu as follows.
“ A traveller through our country would stop at a village, and he didn't have to ask for food or for water. Once he stops, the people give him food, entertain him. That is one aspect of Ubuntu but Ubuntu has various aspects. Ubuntu does not mean that people should not enrich themselves.
The question therefore is: Are you going to do so in order to enable the community around you to improve? ”

The last sentence in above is the most important question everybody should be asking themselves. We spend too much time asking others question, answering others' questions but tend to forget the fact that we need to ask some questions to ourselves first.

P.S.: Ubuntu is also an operating system distribution for Linux.

Linux Mint and Windows Vista ~ (Info) Dual Boot-2

Nov 18,2007
Ok...
So I am back here after having a rough time with my system after I did the above installs.
My system crashed after I installed another OS called Centos and tried one more...
I had taken backup of whole data so it did not cost me much except precious time of my life....
SO then the issue was like this...
I reinstalled two times the same OS(mint) and had mounted partitions from windows here too.
But then I dont know y it happened.
After the third install...OS did not let me unmount it...
None of them...
So then I tried reinstalling another OS and then too I was failure...

Next thing I did was restoring the Vista from my recovery CD, but then it also hung...
I suppose this happened because the unmounted partitions were not kind of free...

So I created a new disc image from Linux Mint installation on the whole disc ( which I did unknowingly or accidently without looking at the note that this would erase all the data on my HDD)
So I was left with a system not more than a machine minus OS...

Next thing is back to restoring Vista...
I could do it now...Successfully did it(created three primary paritions)

So today after I completed my CAT exam(which was My God very very hard and threatening kind of) I sat down installing Mint again....
Installed mint on third primary part and then installed SUSE 10 on additional logical partition I had to create...

The GRUB boot loaded, is showing all three systems now during boot....
Congratulations to me...

Linux Mint and Windows Vista ~ (Info) Dual Boot

Hi Guys,
Recently I got an attack to dual boot install Linux and windows on my lappy.
Actually when I bought the 500 GB hard disk(WD) I could easily take backups of my current data and do whatever I wanted to my current disk.

I went searchiyng for Linux bootable discs.and got lot of them
viz. Linux Mint,SuSe 10.3,SuSe Enterprise and others

The first one I tried was Mint.I booted it thru DVD and the way it turned out was an awesome piece of code.

Though I decided to give try to this one finally, i tried the other ones too, but they did not much appeal me in terms of speed and GUI both..

While doing all this stuff, Vista went dead.... The I had to restrore Vista too.
Installed SUSE KDE too.But it did not let properly do a dual boot..
There some problem with SUSE10.3 boot loader.
When I installed it,I could not load it from disc.It always threw an error saying that "Kernel is not loaded. It should be loaded first"

So I deleted it too..Then I went to my first choice, Mint , and what I am currently having on my lappy is a dual boot Vista + Mint.
GRUB loaded works cool here.automatically detected Windows Vista partition...

although I did take a risk by doing all this, I am happy with the performance I am getting with Linux Mint..
If any of you guys is having thoughts similar to me, please share here.

I afterwards found out in office about a site that gives a step-by-step process to dual boot vista,XP and linux on same system in all combinations
viz. [URL="http://apcmag.com/node/5162/&

quot;]http://apcmag.com/node/5162/

Another thing I would like to share is that Now I want to try some thing different.
I am thinking of partitioning my portable hard drive and install 1/2 linuxes there.
I am not sure whether this will work or not.
All I know is that unlike windows, you can install linux on a portable hard drive partition too.
Windows says it cant install itself on a portable hard drive which I had (a USB one).

What I actually want to try is whether I can port an OS to some other machine and actually boot there by obviously making some modifications in some or other config in the other system.(But I am not sure, not much time I get to do this after my office timings and other stuff)...

Try Mint...
[URL="http://www.linuxmint.c
om/index.php"]http://www.linuxmint.
com/index.php
Its a debian based OS(And I dont much know what a debian based system is-might be kernel or shell)

I am able to have a very good aero experience wth Mint...
You dont always need a Windows for your work...

N Finally...The three RuLeS

Rule#1 : You can only, get smarter by playing a smarter opponent.

Rule#2 : The more sophisticated the game, the more sophisticated the opponent.

Rule#3 : If you change the rules on what controls you..., you will change the rules on what you can control.

What is Guru...Not a definition of Guru though....

There are two types of states where a mind is in...they are :
Practical Nonsense
Sensible Impracticability....

The mixture of these two in different proportions creates a unique state of mind that is responsible for the present state....
These are affected by the following solvents:
Love, Hate, Lust, Agony, Pride, Ego, Prejudice...

Calculations for adding these to the already dense and complex mixture is difficult...but not impossible....
The recipe is freely available everywhere. It cannot be bought but as other all recipes, it cannot be created by everyone, but is created by the chef who has mastered the way to do so..
Such a chef in your life will be called ~The Guru~

Why are we reluctant to stand up for our National Anthem?

Its really a wierd thing to say this at the same time it feels bad to say that this is infact a truth. I am not at all saying that we dont respect our National Anthem, nor do we have a feeling or thought of disrespecting it....

But still the fact remains with major of us that we are reluctant to stand up for our National Anthem. One person looks through the corner of eye to check who is standing up and whether he has really stood up or not. The moment someone stands up, we feel safe as if if nobody would have stood up, it would really be a mess of us to stand up alone. The main thing that causes this is the feeling of insecurity that what will others think if I just stand up with anybody else doing so..They will think I am an over-patriotic guy....Seems cool to let others stand up and we will stand up in a sync with them thus making it not a personal thing but a public thing.....(this is what comes into our minds...believe it or not)

No...this is not criticism...But yes this is a serious problem....

And what more is that a certain sect of the population which is a part of the hip-hop-have-money-will-spend-and-enjoy-without-thinking "culture", that is spreading itself very fast.... These are the ones who believe that freedom is there game of play and they have got it for free as they get everything for free in their lives... These are the ones who believe that celebrating you independence day is by spending you entire day freely roaming around the capital and sitting at Baskin Robbins or Pizza Hut and eating what you want, in whatever quantity you want....

Why are theatre's running a full length Anthem before the movie starts. Now thats a topic over which there's too much of debris all over and I don't want to add to it. But still does it mean that running it in a theatre will really make people respect it? No I dont think so....Because 50% of those who come there still "have" to stand up because others are paying respect to the Anthem..... Such kidney stones can be identified easily since these would sit down even before its over and shall be letting off a sigh of relief as if a big burden has been taken away from them....

Something for a married couple

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner,
I held her hand and said, I've got something to tell
you. She sat down and ate quietly.
Again I observed the hurt in her eyes. Suddenly I
didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her
know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised
the topic calmly.

She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she
asked me softly, why?  I avoided her question. This
made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and
shouted at me, you are not a man!   That night, we
didn¢t talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she
wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage.
But I could h ardly give her a satisfactory answer; she
had lost my heart to a lovely girl called Dew. I
did'nt love her anymore.I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce
agreement which stated that she could own our house,
our car, and 30% stake of my company.
She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces.  The
woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had
become a stranger.  I felt sorry for her wasted time,
resources and energy but I could not take back what I
had said for I loved Dew so dearly.  Finally she cried
loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected
to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release.
The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several
weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her
writing something at the table. I did'nt have supper
but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast
because I was tired after an eventful day with Dew.
When I woke up, she was still there at the table
writing.  I just did not care so I turned over and was
asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions:
she didn't want anything from me, but needed a month's
notice before the divorce.  She requested that in that
one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as
possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his
exams in a months time and she did'nt want to disrupt
him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me.  But she had something more,
she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out
bridal room on our wedding day.
She requested that everyday for the month's duration I
carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever
morning.  I thought she was going crazy.   Just to
make our last days together bearable I accepted her
odd request.

I told Dew ab out my wife s divorce conditions. She
laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter
what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce,
she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my
divorce intention was explicitly expressed.  So when I
carried her out on the first day, we both appeared
clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding
mummy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of
pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to
the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my
arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don¢t tell
our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat
upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to
wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily.
She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of
her blouse. I realized that I hadn¢t looked at this
woman carefully for a long time. I realised she was
not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her
face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its
toll on her.  For a minute I wondered what I had done
to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a
sense of intimacy returning.  This was the woman who
had given ten years of her life to me.   On the fifth
and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy
was growing again. I didn't tell Dew about this.   It
became easier to carry her as the month slipped by.
Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried
on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable
one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown
bigger.  I suddenly realized that she had grown so
thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more
easily.
Suddenly it hit me. She had buried so much pain and
bitter ness in her heart.
Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time
to carry mum out.   To him, seeing his father carrying
his mother out had become an essential part of his
life.  My wife gestured to our son to come closer and
hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I
was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute.
I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom,
through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand
surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her
body tightly, it was just like our wedding day.
But her much lighter weight made me sad.   On the last
day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a
step. Our son had gone to school.
I held her tightly and said, I had'nt noticed that our
life lacked intimacy.

I drove to office... jumped out of the car swiftly
without locking the door. I was afra id any delay would
make me change my mind... I walked upstairs. Dew
opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I do
not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished. Then touched my
forehead.  Do you have a fever? She said.  I moved her
hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said,  I won't
divorce.  My marriage life was boring probably because
she and I didn't value the details of our lives, not
because we didn't love each other any more. Now I
realise that since I carried her into my home on our
wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do
us apart.  Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me
a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into
tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.

At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of
flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to
write on the card. I smiled and
wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

The small details of your lives are what really matter
in a relationship.  It is not the mansion, the car,
property , the money in the bank,  blah..blah.. blah.
These create an environment conducive for happiness
but cannot give happiness in themselves.  So find time
to be your spouse's friend and do those little things
for each other that build intimacy.  Do have a real happy marriage!

1408

Today I saw this movie 1408....

Based on a short story by Stephen King its a marvellous piece of thrilling and chilling tale of a writer who writes novels on haunted hotels and ghosts and spirit infested rooms and chambers.

Then he comes accross a hotel that challenges his mindset that has made it clear in itself that ghosts and spirit do not exist nor does God.A

And with all the events that occur hereafter grips the audience with such a strength and puts them to sych an awe that nobody can escape it. The screenplay is a highly sculptured piece of writing and director has left no broken piece while making this film.

The base that is here is the subconscious of the writer that has all the things he denies and thats what he sees...   You have to conquer the strongest weakness in yourself to understand the real meaning and strength in you....

Boy dont ever skip this movie...Watch it

Its worth the time you invest....

Change is necessary

Two pegs of loneliness, with a tinge of salty dry hair on your head and a tasteless tongue in your mouth, alongwith a spead of wet tearbed bed in your bed room...................

What does it all constitute?

Does it mean anything?

Eternity of nothingness

I was looking at the eternal bliss of the wonderful sunshine that was getting filtered through the countless eyes of the white n gray clouds in the tenderly caring sky under which I was standing, thinking about the treason the Sun God was doing to whole of the vacuum filled sky to make the earth shine, and at the helm of the eternity which I was looking at, stood the endless heart of the ocean, ready to grip you, grab you, conquer all your senses, live or dead, to make you realise the epitome of success that you have achieved today by living the day to its fullest and thereby making it a point with a proof that one should never lose any kind of hope in life...be it the one of being dead at the very moment..just to experience the certainty of it...

Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action.

Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect andconserve the environment and to promote peace by:

Catalysing an energy revolution to address the number one threat facing our planet: climate change.

Defending our oceans by challenging wasteful and destructive fishing, and creating a global network of marine reserves.

Protecting the world’s ancient forests and the animal, plants and people that depend on them.

Working for disarmament and peace by tackling the causes of conflict and calling for the elimination of all nuclear weapons.

Creating a toxic free future with safer alternatives to hazardous chemicals in today's products and manufacturing.

Campaining for sustainable agriculture by rejecting genetically engineered organisms, protecting biodiversity and encouraging socially responsible farming.

Greenpeace is present in 40 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.

To maintain its independence, Greenpeace does not accept donations from governments or corporations but relies on contributions from individual supporters and foundation grants.

Greenpeace has been campaigning against environmental degradation since 1971 when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into Amchitka, an area north of Alaska where the US Government was conducting underground nuclear tests. This tradition of 'bearing witness' in a non-violent manner continues today, and our ships are an important part of all our campaign work.

We exist to expose environmental criminals, and to challenge government and corporations when they fail to live up to their mandate to safeguard our environment and our future.

In pursuing our mission, we have no permanent allies or enemies. We promote open, informed debate about society's environmental choices. We use research, lobbying, and quiet diplomacy to pursue our goals, as well as high-profile, non-violent conflict to raise the level and quality of public debate.

And we believe that the struggle to preserve the future of our planet is not about us. It's about you. Greenpeace speaks for 2.8 million supporters worldwide, and encourages many millions more than that to take action every day.

We take the name of our flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, from a North American Cree Indian legend. It described a time when humanity's greed has made the Earth sick. At that time, a tribe of people known as the Warriors of the Rainbow would rise up to defend her.

As one of the longest banners we've ever made summed things up, "When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that we can't eat money..."

Tasty news from Apple!

After Greenpeace Org took out the issue of Apple Mac PC having toxic chemicals in it, Mr Steve Jobs has announced new policies to be implemented on the production aspects of the PC.

We are cheering! Steve Jobs has decided to bring us closer to the greener apple that Mac users all over the world have been asking for.
Today we saw something we've all been waiting for: the words "A Greener Apple" on the front page of Apple's site, with a message from Steve Jobs saying "Today we're changing our policy."It's not everything we asked for. Apple has declared a phase out of the worst chemicals in its product range, Brominated Fire Retardants (BFRs) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) by 2008.

That beats Dell and other computer manufactures' pledge to phase them out by 2009. Way to go Steve!

NASA's journey to Mars

First Steps to Mars
The landing site is unknown. The rockets are still on the drawing board. Some of the astronauts haven't even been born yet.
Never mind all that. NASA's journey to Mars has already begun.

With all new scientific innovations going on at NASA we have also found that more and more limitations are faced by scientists since medicines seem to lose their potency when in space and food diminishes in its nutrient value.
This is kind of dynamic human testing that is faced by every human. With new and new frontiers being scaled by man more and more we get clearer and closer to the truth of universe the more complex it becomes.
Read more about this...
We are soon going to be on Mars......

We are swinging emotional pendulums

I have always thought a human mind as an abode of big mysteries and thoughts that once generated can never die.
In fact it is one kind of storage space which keeps on increasing and providing space for new thoughts and still can maintain its performance. Anyways this is not what I wanted to write. I will write on this subject sometime in future.

What makes a human mind a crashing aircraft is one thing - expectation.
This is the rajo gun that Shri Krishna has talked about when He recited all of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita to Arjuna.

We keep expecting from people in every kind of way.
We expect somebody should talk to us all the time but then when we have somebody to talk to we don't have words to talk.(this is another major issue)
We expect somebody must call us,would gift us and feel something for us.
Care for us,love us,be like us,not forget us,keep thinking about us...blah blah blah...

Our focus keep changing from time to time. We keep expecting from different people at different times in different forms. I am not all saying this is any kind of abnormal thing or wrong thing. This is absolutely natural way of behaviour that a human is supposed to live with.

We are like Emotional Pendulums drifting in empty emotional space hitting surfaces from time to time and getting thrown back depending upon the resistance that the surface offered. By resistance I mean the way other people behave with us and respond to our expectations from them.

These emotional pendulums do have a rhythm but not always.... Most of the times they are randomised. This is the fact that is totally contradictory to the way we have been developed by God.(that's another aspect again - related to perfection)

So now the human emotional pendulum keep moving from one person to another, old to new, and swinging again between the old ones ad new ones.

This can be termed as a the Rational Randomised Alternating Expectology of a human being. Rather a new word that seems so absurd to have been coined. But this is a fact we are supposed to live with and are living.

Next time with some new thought....Till then good bye...

A CHAT WITH GOD

A CHAT WITH GOD

God: Hello. Did you call me?
Me: Called you? No. Who is this?

God: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.
Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something.

God: What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.
Me: Don't know. But I can't find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.

God: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.
Me: I understand. But I still can't figure out. By the way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.

God: Well, I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this net era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?
God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Me: Why are we then constantly unhappy?
God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?
God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty...
God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?
God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don't suffer. With that experience their life become better, not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?
God: Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can't we be free from problems?
God: Problems are: Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons to Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are heading...
God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside.
Looking outside, you dream.
Looking inside, you awaken.
Eyes provide sight.
Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?
God: Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than Knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass (direction). Let others work with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?
God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?
God: When they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me?" Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I. Why I am here. I can't get the answer.
God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?
God: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.
God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I am so happy to start the New Day with a new sense of inspiration.
God: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live
